Diffractive lensing of nano-Hertz gravitational waves emitted from supermassive binary black holes by intervening galaxies

چکیده
Abstract Pulsar timing array (PTA) experiments are expected to detect nano-Hertz gravitational waves (GWs) emitted from individual inspiralling supermassive binary black holes (SMBBHs). The GW signals a small fraction of these SMBBHs may be diffractively lensed by intervening galaxies. In this paper, we investigate the diffractive lensing effects on continuous and estimate detectable number such PTAs, as Chinese PTA (CPTA) Square Kilometer Array (SKA) PTA. We find that amplitude only amplified factor ∼1.01 − 1.14 ($16~{{\%}}-84~{{\%}}$ range) phase shift somewhat due lensing, significantly different those strongly high frequency compact mergers in geometric optics. $\sim 0.01~{{\%}}$ all detected future foreground galaxies (i.e., up ∼106 for CPTA ∼289 SKA-PTA). However, difficult distinguished without observations only. further discuss possibility about identification via electromagnetic detection their host or active galactic nuclei.

Extreme gravitational lensing by supermassive black holes
— Extreme gravitational lensing refers to the bending of photon trajectories that pass very close to supermassive black holes and that cannot be described in the conventional weak deflection limit. A complete analytical description of the whole expected phenomenology has been achieved in the recent years using the strong deflection limit. These progresses and possible directions for new investi...
متن کاملGravitational waves from inspiraling binary black holes
Binary black holes are the most promising candidate sources for the first generation of earth-based interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. We summarize and discuss the state-of-the-art analytic techniques developed during the last years to better describe the late dynamical evolution of binary black holes of comparable masses. متن کاملNuclear activity in galaxies driven by binary supermassive black holes
Nuclear activity in galaxies is closely connected to galactic mergers and supermassive black holes (SBH). Galactic mergers perturb substantially the dynamics of gas and stellar population in the merging galaxies, and they are expected to lead to formation of supermassive binary black holes (BBH) in the center of mass of the galaxies merged. A scheme is proposed here that connects the peak magni...
متن کاملA burst search for gravitational waves from binary black holes
Compact binary coalescence (CBC) is one of the most promising sources of gravitational waves. These sources are usually searched for with matched filters which require accurate calculation of the GW waveforms and generation of large template banks. We present a complementary search technique based on algorithms used in un-modeled searches. Initially designed for detection of un-modeled bursts, ...
متن کاملGravitational Lensing by Charged Black Holes
The physics associated with spherically symmetric charged black holes are analyzed from the point of view of weak gravitational lensing as a means for determining the dimensionality of spacetime. In particular, the effect of charged black holes in four and five space time dimensions on the motion of photons are studied using the equations for the null geodesics and deriving the weak limit bendi...
